It’s that time of year again for me to call Barclays to waive the annual fee on my American Airlines Aviator Red card. Last year was a success and this year was too! I simply called the number on the back of the card and told them I noticed my annual fee was due. I then asked if there were any offers to offset the annual fee.
Lo and behold they said they would waive the fee! But wait there is more! They also said there is an offer on my card for 5,000 American Airlines miles if I spend $1,000 in 90 days. Piece of cake! To top it off I already received an offer of 30% bonus on miles earned through September. I don’t believe the 30% bonus will apply to the 5000 bonus miles but if it does even better!
Once again Barclays is generous with retaining there customers. To summarize:
- Annual 10,000 American Airlines miles posted (my card receives this every year regardless of retention offer)
- Annual fee waived
- 5,000 American Airlines on $1,000 spend
- 30% bonus on miles earned
In total that is at least 15,300 American Airlines miles and no annual fee!
Now to tell you the truth I would have kept the card open even if I received no offers. The 10,000 annual miles is worth it alone to keep it open. Plus Barclays is extremely generous with targeted offers (offer 1, offer 2, offer 3 for hefty 15,000 miles!) throughout the year. I don’t put any of my regular spending on the card except when these offers come about.
Now time to wait a couple months and to call in for my wife’s offer. Hopefully it works out well!
