PenFed Targeted Spending Offer
I just received the most interesting targeted spending offer in the mail… This time coming on my PenFed Premium Travel Rewards American Express Card. The offer is for a $100 statement credit on $1000 spending from November 1st, 2015 to December 31st, 2015. The terms state that cash advances, credit card checks, and balances card transfers do not count towards the minimum. It also states to allow up to 2 months after the promotion ends to receive the statement credit. This is a pretty lucrative offer giving a straight 10% cashback on $1000 spending and I will personal utilize this offer.
Some people may be wondering what PenFed is and here is just a quick background. PenFed also goes by the Pentagon Federal Credit Union and their main customers are active and retired military personal. However, any civilian can also join with a donation to a military association with a onetime cost of $14. They actually have some really great products especially for home and auto loans. In addition, they have some decent credit card products such as the PenFed Premium Travel Rewards American Express (referenced above) that earns 1 point on all spending and 5 points on airfare with a 20,000 signup bonus. They also have another interesting credit card the PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa Signature Card with 5 points on gas, 3 points on supermarkets, and 1 point on all other spending. The points are worth about 1 cent so nothing amazing by any means but the bonus categories are pretty awesome. Both cards have no annual fees so just keep these credit cards in mind if you are running out of options for applying for new credit cards.
Actually the PenFed Premium Travel Rewards card was my first “travel” credit card I ever received. I used the signup bonus to pay for my girlfriend’s (now fiance!) first ever flight! This is the first time I have ever received a spending offer from PenFed and it is definitely a pleasant surprise, just in time for holiday shopping! With the offer essentially giving a 10% rebate on spending it would be silly for me not to take advantage of this. What is interesting is that I pretty much have no spending on this card except for Amex sync promotions on this card. Yes, this card is an American Express so you can add offers via twitter and the no fee so that is pretty nifty!
So if you haven’t had much spending on PenFed’s credit cards I would check your mail to see if you have an offer! Has anyone else ever received a spending offer from PenFed? This may be a new thing for them.
Southwest Targeted Spending Offer
I also received another targeted spending offer this week from Chase on my Southwest Premier Credit Card. Spend $4000 and get 2000 point bonus. To me this is not worth it. Other people have reported receiving other offers for more spending and more points but it is still pretty lackluster unless you desperately need Southwest points like for the Companion Pass.
